Whether you're applying for a UDC scholarship or researching your application for UDC membership, you'll need authoritative proof of your ancestry.

For proof to include in your scholarship application, the Virginia Division's web site has good information.

For genealogical research, the National Genealogy Society is a good starting place. The Genealogical Society where your Confederate ancestor lived can also be a good source of information. And don't forget libraries - the Bull Run Regional Library in Manassas has Relic, an amazing resource, and also offers programs.

The government's putting more and more records online (see GovGenealogySearch.com), and Virginia has its own site. I didn't find either of these sites particularly useful for my searches. The Records Project is a bit more user-friendly. And I found a gem for Manassas. I'd love to post other sites with Virginia information - if you have a favorite, please send it to me!
